Personal Profile Nils Westman studied at
Bath University and is a Bachelor of Science in Architecture a member of the
Royal Institute of British Architects and the Exeter Branch of the RIBA. Coming
from a Swedish background he brings a Scandinavian influence to the projects
on which he is involved. Whilst the Practice is engaged on a variety of
projects, including schools, commercial schemes and historic buildings work,
Nils has a particular specialism in the Care Home and Disability sector,
having designed the Exeter and District Hospice, disabled adaptation schemes
and the delightful conversion of a farm building into Care Home accommodation
and training facilities in Hampshire. Nils has given seminars on the
disability work on which he has been engaged at the Pathways 1996 disability
exhibition at Westpoint, Exeter the ABE sponsored disability conference held
at the Rougemont hotel in Exeter in February 1998, and a series of day
conferences in Plymouth, Taunton and Bodmin in 2002 run by Plymouth City
Council Environment Directorate. The Practice has been commissioned by The
Royal School for the Blind (Seeability), a national charity for the blind and
partially sighted, and has completed a Care Home and Resource Centre project,
in Wellington, Somerset, which the Duchess of Gloucester officially opened in
May 2001 and has won two design awards. The Practice is currently engaged on
the design for a new supported apartments scheme for visually impaired adults
in Honiton, East Devon as well as major school and visitor centre schemes, in
the south west. |
